Raw Living Resources

A practical library for exploring raw vegan and whole-food plant-based living with curiosity, care, and room for individual choice.

01

Getting Started with Raw & Plant-Based Foods

There is no single required way to begin. The most useful approach is often the one that fits your life and can be adjusted with care.

  • Start with something familiar: fruit at breakfast, a larger salad, or cut vegetables beside a meal.
  • Add rather than overhaul. A gradual transition makes it easier to notice satisfaction, energy, digestion, cost, and convenience.
  • Raw does not have to mean all-or-nothing. Whole cooked plant foods can also be part of a nourishing pattern.

02

Fruits & Vegetables

Fresh fruit, vegetables, leafy greens, and herbs formed the heart of the original Raw Vegan Houston food philosophy.

  • Choose a varied range of colors, textures, and flavors rather than relying on one favorite food.
  • Wash produce carefully, refrigerate cut foods promptly, and follow current food-safety guidance.
  • Seasonal produce can make simple meals more flavorful, affordable, and enjoyable.
03

Nuts, Seeds & Sprouts

Nuts and seeds can add richness, texture, protein, and fats to plant-based meals. Sprouts add freshness and crunch, but need particular care.

  • Use nuts and seeds in portions that suit your needs—as toppings, blended dressings, pâtés, or dessert bases.
  • Soaking can soften certain nuts and seeds for blending, but it does not make every food safe to eat raw.
  • Raw sprouts can carry harmful bacteria. Children, older adults, pregnant people, and anyone with reduced immunity should seek current safety guidance before eating them.
04

Simple Food Preparation

The archive shows how a few straightforward techniques can turn whole ingredients into satisfying meals without making food complicated.

  • Blend soups, sauces, dressings, dips, and fruit-based desserts.
  • Chop, grate, spiralize, marinate, soak, or dehydrate to create different textures.
  • Keep knives, cutting boards, blenders, hands, and work surfaces clean; refrigerate prepared foods promptly.
05

Juices & Smoothies

Fresh green juice, carrot-apple juice, and coconut milk were part of Raw Vegan Houston’s original offerings. They can be enjoyed as foods—not as cleanses or cures.

  • Smoothies retain the fiber of whole produce; juice removes much of it.
  • Use juices as one part of a varied diet rather than a replacement for balanced meals.
  • Prepare only what you can store safely, keep it cold, and wash produce and equipment thoroughly.
06

Common Nutrition Questions

A food being raw does not automatically make a whole eating pattern complete. Variety, adequacy, food safety, and individual needs still matter.

  • A fully vegan pattern requires a reliable source of vitamin B12.
  • Protein, iron, calcium, iodine, vitamin D, omega-3 fats, and overall energy intake deserve attention, especially with a highly restricted diet.
  • Children, pregnant people, older adults, athletes, and people managing health conditions may have different needs. A qualified clinician or registered dietitian can offer individualized guidance.

Recipes & Meal Inspiration

Raw Vegan Houston’s 2017 archive remains the best record of the colorful meals prepared and shared with the Houston community.

  • Build a simple plate around vegetables or fruit, then add herbs, sprouts, avocado, nuts, seeds, or a blended dressing.
  • Archived ideas include taco salad with walnut meat and cashew sauce, cabbage biryani, spinach saag, falafel wraps, fruit salsa, and carrot cake dessert.
  • Use the archive for inspiration, while checking present-day food-safety and nutrition guidance for your own needs.

A responsible archive

Useful history, held with care.

The former website included medical and disease-treatment claims alongside detox, colon-cleansing, and enema recommendations. Those statements are not republished here as guidance.

This library preserves the practical food ideas, community history, and spirit of exploration without presenting raw food as a way to prevent, treat, reverse, or cure disease. It is educational and is not a substitute for individualized medical advice.
